Brief Bio
Dr. S. Rajan is a former Director of NCPOR, Goa. He has over four decades of scientific and administrative experience in various facets of geosciences, initially in the GSI and subsequently at NCPOR, from where he retired in 2015. Dr Rajan has been involved in marine geoscientific studies and continental margin research specialising in maritime boundary delineation since 1984. The leader of the Indian Continental Shelf Programme between 1999 and 2012, he is currently India’s elected representative to the UNCLCS. On the polar front, He was a member of the four-member team which visited Antarctica during 2003-04 to identify a site for India’s new Antarctic research base. He has also been an integral part of the Indian scientific endeavours in the Arctic and had been the principal investigator of a project to study the seasonal and annual responses of an Arctic fjord to climate variabilities. Dr Rajan is the recipient of the National Geoscience Award 2010 for his contributions to the field of Ocean Development as well as the Dr H. N. Siddiquie Medal of the Indian Geophysical Union (2014) for his contributions to the field of Marine Sciences.
