Dr Nalan Koc has been serving as Research Director at the Norwegian Polar Institute (NPI) since September 2011. Dr Nalan has over three decades of experience with climate interpretations from polar marine sediment cores and has participated in as well as led many cruises in the Nordic Seas, Arctic Ocean and the Southern Ocean. She has also participated in several Ocean Drilling Programme (ODP) and Integrated Ocean Drilling Programme (IODP) cruises. She has extensive experience in polar climate research and management through her previous positions at NPI as leader of the Polar Climate Programme (2004-2009) and as head of the Centre for Ice, Climate and Ecosystems (ICE), NPI (2009-2011) and in her present position as research director. She has also served on several international science panels (i.e., CLIVAR, ESSAC, EPB, FARO).
