LIGHTS, an NGO, began in 2003 as a Society registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.
Following are our objectives:
President, LIGHTS
Sulagna Chattopadhyay is the President of LIGHTS. She is the Founder Editor of G’nY magazine since its inception in 2001. She has been nominated as a member of the working group for disaster management in the Planning Commission in 2011. She has edited 12 books and reports. She is the member of the Anti-Ragging Committee, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi since 2009. She has been Convenor of many national and international level conferences; has rganised seven Data Users’ Seminars for Senior Secondary Teachers in the country; has organized Earth Day Celebrations on behalf of the Ministry of Earth Sciences since 2011 in hundreds of schools across the country. She has been actively involved in charitable activities.
Member, LIGHTS
Retired from the Government in 2002. He became Member, Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in 2004. Dr. Seth started research and development. After 18 years of R&D he took up planning, operations and maintenance of services. He has worked closely with the eminent jurist Mr Fali S. Nariman providing technical inputs in the drafting of the Communications Convergence Bill, 2001. As founder Chairman & Managing Director of BSNL, he pioneered BSNL’s cellular mobile service and pioneered the concept of Unified Licensing. He has also prepared a white paper for the National Knowledge Commission outlining the approach to a broadband network —The Knowledge Net—with access speed, of at least 100 Mbps, to various organisations. He has worked as consultant with the ITU, World Bank and Asian Development Bank in Cambodia, Bangladesh and Bhutan as well as the Telecom Regulatory Authority of Oman and a prominent British consultancy for Sri Lanka’s Optic Fibre Backbone Network. He is Vice President LIGHTS and has been closely associated with the LIGHTS Research Foundation, giving valuable inputs to the organisation.

Dr. Raju is a Professor in Social Geography, Centre for the Study of Regional Development, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. She did her Post-doctoral Studies, from Department of Geography, Syracuse University, Syracuse, New, York, USA and M. A. Ph.D. Geography, Jiwaji University, Gwalior, India. Dissertation Title: “Greater Gwalior and the Rural Urban Fringe: A Study in Morphology of Settlements”. She has received many Honours & Awards which include First Visiting Scholar in Feminist Perspectives on Globalization; The Canadian International Development Agency-International Development Research Centre- Carleton University-University of Ottawa, Canada sponsored by Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC)during 2004-05. She was a Visiting Guest Professor, Department of Geography and South Asian Institute, Ruprecht-Karls University, Heidelberg, Germany (1995). She got Trevelyan Fellowship at the Durham University, Durham, England. British Council’s Grant-in-Aid and Wallace Trust, England’s Travel Grant in 1992.
She is an internationally renowned Scholar on Gender-related issue. She has also to her credit to have produced first Gender-Atlas. She has been actively associated with the activities of LIGHTS, particularly the activities related to Women empowerment.

Dr. B Meenakumari is the former Chairperson,National Biodiversity Authority, Chennai. She has contributed immensely to the development of deep sea demersal trawls and towards improved material for lobster making traps.
Member, LIGHTS
Dr. Sinha is a Professor and Chairperson at Centre for Studies in Regional Development, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. His area of research broadly included Social geography and geography of well Being; tribal and rural studies; research on socially marginalized sections with respect to access to health and education. He has been awarded Bhugol Bhushan Award, by Deccan Geography in 2013.
Member, LIGHTS
Dr Veenu Seth has done M.Sc. and Ph. D. in Nutrition. She has been Nutrition Consultant and Former Associate Professor, Nutrition, Lady Irwin College (Delhi University), New Delhi; She held the post of Clinical Director (Health Promotion) Special Olympics International. She has been actively involved in many workshops and conferences on nutrition. Her contribution to help malnutritioned children come out of it immense. She has been an active volunteer for LIGHTS for a long time.
Treasurer, LIGHTS
Dr. Prasad has done M.A., M Phil and Ph.D. from the School of International Studies,N Prasad Centre for International Politics, Organisation and Disarmament, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He is trained in research and analysis. Further, he has two books of international quality to his name and has been the Editor of Bhugol our Aap, a Hindi bi-monthly magazine on environmental issues from its inception. He is also on the panel of editorial advisors for the G’nY magazine that has been covering all aspects of environmental issues for the last 14 years. Dr. Prasad has been associated with LIGHTS since 2003 and has participated in many charitable activities undertaken by LIGHTS.
Dr. Prasad has worked with Indian Parliament in various capacities since October 1994 to 2017. He has got a vast experience in the functioning of Parliamentary system. He is director of a capacity building institute ‘Parliamentary & Administrative Research Institute’ (PARI).
