Concerns on climate change and its impact on land, environment and mankind have been growing. Nowhere else these changes are manifested and visible more glaringly than the cryospheric regions of our Earth, as the snow and ice exhibit the response to such changes is perceptible to the naked eye. India being home to the world’s Third Pole i.e, Himalayas shares concerns common to other polar nations and given the impact of climate change and its already visible outcomes, India has a lot to lose if timely initiatives are not undertaken.

LIGHTS Research Foundation has been endeavouring to provide a platform to scientists who have been working relentlessly in these harsh polar terrains and to others who are experts in the fields of geopolitics, environment, social sciences and policy makers etc. to come together to deliberate and evolve a joint effort for a better understanding of the issues and threats.

Under the LIGHTS Foundation, SaGHAA has been institutionalised and structured as a multi-stakeholder, cross-sectoral discussion to bring together researchers of several institutions and universities together who are actively involved in cryosphere studies around the world.
